FIA ANNOUNCES RALLY2 UPGRADE KIT TO BOOST WRC27 COMPETITION

RALLY2 CARS TO RECEIVE FIA-APPROVED KIT FOR TOP-CLASS WRC PARTICIPATION IN 2027-2028

The FIA has confirmed plans to introduce a Rally2 upgrade kit that will allow eligible Rally2 cars to compete alongside new-generation WRC27 machinery during the 2027 and 2028 FIA World Rally Championship seasons.

The move is part of the FIA’s strategy to increase competition and strengthen entry numbers at the highest level of rallying when the new WRC27 regulations come into force next year.

Under the new regulations, WRC27 cars will be built around a €345,000 cost cap and will share many components with existing Rally2 machinery. To further align performance levels, the FIA has approved a Rally2-WRC Kit designed to improve aerodynamic parity between the two categories.

The kit will have a maximum cost of €7,500 and will include new homologated front fenders, a front bumper and a rear aerodynamic device. Rally2 cars fitted with the package will be eligible to compete in the championship’s top category during the two-year transition period.

According to the FIA, manufacturers wishing to homologate the Rally2-WRC Kit must be registered as WRC constructors. During the first year of homologation, they will be required to compete in every round of the WRC calendar with at least two cars per event.

The FIA has also defined the technical framework for Rally2-WRC Kit cars, including a minimum weight of 1220kg. Each kit will be allowed one joker update for bodywork components, with only one homologation extension permitted during the 2027-2028 period.

Eligibility for Rally2-WRC Kit cars in the WRC’s premier category will end on 31 December 2028, marking the conclusion of the planned transition phase.
