FORMER WORLD CHAMPION OTT TÄNAK WILL MAKE HIS FIRST RALLY APPEARANCE FOR TOYOTA SINCE 2019 BY DRIVING A GR YARIS RALLY2 ZERO CAR AT NEXT MONTH’S RALLY DI ROMA CAPITALE

Ott Tänak will return to a Toyota rally car for the first time since 2019 when he drives a GR Yaris Rally2 as a zero car at next month’s Rally di Roma Capitale.

The former world champion stepped away from the World Rally Championship at the end of 2025 but has since taken on a testing role with Toyota as the manufacturer develops its car for the 2027 technical regulations.

Tänak and co-driver Martin Järveoja will appear at Rally di Roma Capitale, round three of the 2026 European Rally Championship, in a non-competitive role. Toyota is using the event as a fact-finding opportunity ahead of Rome’s expected arrival on the World Rally Championship calendar in 2027, when it is set to replace Rally Italia Sardegna as Italy’s WRC round.

Rather than competing for stage times, Tänak will drive a 0-B car — a demonstration car that runs between the double zero and official zero cars and is used for promotional purposes without entering the rally classification.

Toyota confirmed that its GR Yaris Rally2 test car will be used in the role, with Tänak and Järveoja at the wheel.
